Becoming a journalist offers countless opportunities to learn through various challenges. She is cool, smart, and appears on TV watched by many people. That’s one of the things that motivated Ken Anne to become a TV journalist. She began pursuing her dream by working as a **freelance journalist at Kompas TV Central Java in 2016. “At that time, I was in my final semesters of college. While working on my thesis, I had a lot of free time, so I decided to try being a journalist,” explained Ken Anne, a 2017 graduate of the Communication Studies program at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Diponegoro (Undip), Semarang, with a GPA of 3.85.

She worked at Kompas TV for nearly a year and a half. Later, her bureau chief suggested that she apply to tvOne, which was opening a vacancy for a news presenter. “At first, I wasn’t really enthusiastic because I felt tired of being a journalist. I wanted to work in another industry, like public relations,” Ken said on Friday this week. However, Ken Anne decided to apply to tvOne with a nothing to lose mindset. Unexpectedly, she received a call from tvOne to continue to the next selection stage — and eventually, she was accepted. She has now been with tvOne for nearly four years.

Being a journalist, of course, brings a sense of pride: having the chance to meet inspiring figures, being recognized by many people, becoming part of historical events, and visiting places she never imagined before. “Those are experiences I probably wouldn’t have had if I weren’t a journalist at tvOne,” said Ken Anne, who is known for being idealistic and open-minded.

As a tvOne journalist, Ken Anne, who was born on March 7, 1994, had one of the most memorable experiences of her career when she covered a malnutrition case in Asmat, Papua, in early 2018. This assignment was particularly special because she had only been with tvOne for three months, yet she was entrusted with coverage at the easternmost point of Indonesia for two weeks and she was the only female journalist on the team. She had to work amid challenging geographical and social conditions she had never imagined before. “Being able to survive the tough journey through seas and forests and still complete my assignment gave me a deep sense of satisfaction,” recalled Ken, who continues to improve herself by studying and reading books.

In addition, Ken was one of 12 young journalists invited by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to visit the Land of the Rising Sun. During the 10-day trip, she learned about Japanese culture and witnessed the revival of Fukushima Prefecture, which had been devastated by the tsunami and nuclear disaster.

After gaining field experience as a reporter, Ken was later appointed as a tvOne presenter in December 2017, shortly after joining the station. She has hosted several tvOne programs, including Kabar Pagi, Ragam Perkara, Hotnews, Kabar Khusus, Kabar Petang, Kabar Pasar, Cover Story, Cerita Kita, and Fakta. “I’ve also been part of several Breaking News segments and have been embedded in the Kabar Siang program up to now,” said Ken, who is known for her excellent on-air performance.
