The Faculty of Cultural Sciences at Diponegoro University (FIB Undip) once again held a Sharing Session titled “Success Story of FIB Undip Alumni,” this time featuring the inspiring figure of Dr. Sri Suciati, M.Hum., Rector of PGRI University of Semarang (UPGRIS).

Through a warm conversation, she shared her life experiences, career journey, and the values that shaped her, leading her to successfully reach the pinnacle of leadership in the academic world.

Dr. Sri Suciati is an alumna of the Indonesian Literature Program, formerly known as the Indonesian Language and Literature Program, class of 1983. She recalls her college days at FIB Undip as a period filled with learning and emotional closeness between faculty and students.

“The professors at FIB back then were very caring. They didn’t just teach; they also guided students wholeheartedly, even staying late into the night during campus activities like the EMKA Theater. That made us feel valued and well-cared for,” she reminisced.

That academic atmosphere, filled with care and a spirit of cooperation, she believes, served as a crucial foundation for students to grow into individuals of integrity and self-confidence.

Not only did she excel academically, but during her college years, Dr. Sri was also active in campus theater activities, specifically the EMKA Theater at FIB Undip, and frequently participated in drama performances, poetry recitals, and even served as a narrator behind the scenes.

It was this experience that fostered her self-confidence and public speaking skills, which would later become a major asset in her career.

After graduating, she began her career at PGRI University in Semarang. Interestingly, although she initially worked as a lecturer, she was often asked to host campus events thanks to her language skills and confident demeanor two qualities she attributes to her training at the Faculty of Humanities at Undip.

Along the way, Dr. Sri Suciati was not immune to failure. She admitted to failing on several occasions, including during her first time hosting an event. However, failure actually fueled her determination to keep learning and improving herself.

“If you fail 8 times, you have to get back up 10 times. Failure isn’t the end of everything, but the beginning of becoming stronger,” she said enthusiastically.

During the sharing session, Dr. Sri Suciati emphasized three key values she has upheld throughout her career: adaptability, enthusiasm, and spirituality.

According to him, no matter where one is whether as a student, lecturer, or leader the ability to adapt is key to surviving and thriving. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of maintaining enthusiasm in every activity and incorporating spiritual values into every step.

“Be enthusiastic about whatever you do, and don’t forget to keep God in your heart at all times. That is what makes our journey meaningful,” he told the students of the Faculty of Humanities at Undip.

Now, under his leadership, UPGRIS continues to grow rapidly and has become one of the universities with a student population that increases every year. He emphasized that the strong foundation he gained at FIB Undip has been an essential asset in every step of his career.

“FIB Undip has shaped me, not only academically but also as a person. The values I learned here—integrity, simplicity, and empathy—have guided me in my leadership,” he said, closing the session with emotion.

Through this Sharing Session, FIB Undip not only celebrates the success of its alumni but is also committed to providing real inspiration for students to continue daring to dream, striving, and contributing to society and the nation.
