Dr. Gentio Harsono, ST, M.Sc., is an alumnus of the Faculty of Marine Sciences and Fisheries, Diponegoro University, who has pursued a brilliant career in academics and research, particularly in the application of technology for the defense and maritime sectors. He completed his Marine Science studies at the Faculty of Marine Sciences, Diponegoro University, in 1989, which provided a strong foundation for his in-depth understanding of the ocean and maritime phenomena. With this provision, he continued his studies and obtained a Master of Science degree and an Engineer (ST) profession, emphasizing the combination of scientific and technical expertise. Currently, Dr. Gentio Harsono devotes his knowledge as a Lecturer at the Republic of Indonesian Defense University , where he plays a vital role in educating the next generation in the field of national defense, with a focus on maritime technology applications.

Dr. Gentio Harsono’s academic journey began on the green campus of the Faculty of Marine Sciences, Diponegoro University, where he completed his Bachelor of Marine Science studies in 1989. This background gave him a fundamental understanding of oceanography, hydrography, and ocean dynamics. His thirst for technical and applied knowledge led him to continue his studies, further developing his expertise. He earned a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree , as well as an Engineer (ST) degree , demonstrating his multidisciplinary competence in applied science and technology, particularly those related to maritime affairs .

In academia, Dr. Gentio Harsono has made significant contributions as a Lecturer at the Republic of Indonesia Defense University . His role at this defense university emphasizes how science and technology, particularly marine-based ones, can be applied for the benefit of national defense. He not only shares knowledge but also leads and is actively involved in various innovative research activities.

One of Dr. Gentio Harsono’s prominent research achievements is successfully identifying the surface anatomy of the Rip Current at Drini Beach, Yogyakarta, using artificial intelligence (AI) technology. This scientific phenomenon is very important for public safety in coastal areas. His other research, “Spatial distribution of extreme upwelling events in the Seas of Alor Kecil, Indonesia, revealed by UAV’s thermal infrared sensor,”He demonstrated his expertise in the use of cutting-edge technologies such as drones and thermal infrared sensors to map extreme oceanographic phenomena in Indonesian waters. His involvement in research indexed in Scopus and publications in various reputable scientific journals, including the Omni Akuatika Journal, underscore his dedication to the advancement of maritime science. Dr. Gentio Harsono’s journey from a graduate of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Diponegoro University (FPIK), to a leading academic and researcher, contributing to the defense and scientific understanding of Indonesia’s oceans, is an extraordinary example.
