Abung Maruli Simanjuntak is an alumnus of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) of Diponegoro University who has carved an impressive career path in the aquatic animal nutrition industry, particularly in the field of aquaculture. Graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Aquaculture from FPIK UNDIP in 2013, Abung continued his studies and obtained a Master of Science (MSc) in Fish and Shrimp Health from the Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) in 2016. With a combination of technical expertise in aquaculture and a deep understanding of aquatic animal health and nutrition, he now holds a crucial role as Technical Expert Manager for Aqua Region Greater Asia Pacific at dsm-firmenich Animal Nutrition & Health. His dynamic journey highlights how the scientific foundation of FPIK UNDIP can be developed into global expertise that contributes to food security.

Abung Maruli Simanjuntak’s academic journey began at the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) of Diponegoro University, where he completed his Bachelor’s degree (S1) in Aquaculture with a focus on Fish Health and Feed Management in 2013. His education at FPIK UNDIP provided him with a strong foundational understanding of the life cycle of aquatic organisms, culture systems, and the health challenges they often face. The desire to deepen his expertise in a very specific field led him to pursue a Master’s degree at the Bogor Agricultural University (IPB). There, he earned a Master of Science (MSc) in 2016 with a specialization in Aquaculture , focusing on Fish and Shrimp Health . This degree equipped him with the latest technical knowledge in disease diagnosis, health solution development, and effective feed management strategies to improve productivity and sustainability of aquaculture.

Abung Maruli Simanjuntak’s professional career focuses on scientific applications to improve efficiency and sustainability in the aquaculture industry. He began his journey in the industry as a Research Assistant at PKSPL-IPB (2014-2016), which gave him hands-on research experience in the aquaculture sector. After earning his MSc, Abung joined Novindo as a Technical Sales and Marketing Specialist – Aquaculture (2016-2018), where he bridged technical understanding with market needs. In 2018, Abung joined dsm-firmenich Animal Nutrition & Health (formerly known as BIOMIN), a leading global company in animal nutrition and health. He began his role as Technical Sales Manager – Aquaculture.(2018-2022), leading the technical sales team and providing innovative nutritional solutions to farmers. His career continued to climb, and since 2022, Abung has served as Technical Expert Manager – Aquaculture at dsm-firmenich Animal Nutrition & Health, holding broader responsibilities for the Aqua Region Greater Asia Pacific . In this role, he leads a team of technical experts, develops nutritional solution strategies, and ensures the implementation of leading-edge feed technologies to support the growth of the aquaculture industry in the Asia Pacific region.

Abung Maruli Simanjuntak’s scientific publications, such as the study on “The Use of Ambon Banana Stem Extract as an Immunostimulant for Controlling White Spot Disease in Whiteleg Shrimp Cultivation” , demonstrate his interest in finding innovative and nature-based solutions to address health challenges in shrimp farming. Abung’s journey from a student at FPIK UNDIP to a global technical expert manager in the aquatic animal nutrition industry is a clear demonstration of how quality education and dedication can open doors to impactful careers, contributing to innovation in the global food chain.
