The Faculty of Medicine at Diponegoro University (FK Undip) has once again demonstrated its contribution to producing outstanding human resources in the field of medicine through the achievements of its alumnus, Dr. dr. Dody Novrial, M.Si.Med., Sp.PA, who currently serves as Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Cooperation at the Faculty of Medicine, Jenderal Soedirman University. As a specialist in Anatomical Pathology, Dr. Dody focuses his research on cancer, particularly breast tumors and the hepatobiliary digestive system. His dedication to advancing medical science is reflected in various innovative studies, including research on MicroRNA biomarkers as prognostic factors for colorectal cancer, as well as the exploration of natural compounds such as sambiloto and ciplukan as candidates for phytopharmaceutical-based medical therapies. Dr. Dody’s academic journey is inseparable from the role of the Faculty of Medicine at Diponegoro University as the institution that laid the foundation for his scientific knowledge and professionalism. He is an alumnus who completed all levels of education at the Faculty of Medicine, Diponegoro University, from his Bachelor of Medicine to earning his Doctor of Medical and Health Sciences degree. During his education, the Faculty of Medicine at Diponegoro University not only equipped Dr. Dody with academic competencies but also shaped his leadership character and integrity.

His experience as President of the Undip Faculty of Medicine Student Executive Board (BEM FK Undip) and his involvement in national organizations have further strengthened his capabilities as both a physician and a leader in the field of medical education. According to him, there are three key strengths of education at the Undip Faculty of Medicine: a dynamic academic atmosphere, extensive exposure to clinical cases through teaching hospitals, and the exemplary role of faculty members as academic mentors and models of professionalism. He also noted that the resident training system at the Undip Faculty of Medicine has successfully fostered clinical independence and strong professional discipline. Furthermore, Dr. Dody emphasized the importance of developing medical education that is adaptive to global developments, while continuing to prioritize ethical values and character. This is seen as aligning with the Faculty of Medicine’s role in producing graduates who are not only clinically competent but also capable of contributing to research, health policy, and community service.

“The educational system must be adaptive. We must prioritize critical thinking, digital literacy, and complex problem-solving without in any way abandoning our cultural identity and local character,” Dr. Dody asserted regarding current global challenges.

As an alumnus, he also conveyed a message to the students of the Undip Faculty of Medicine to make the most of their time in school, uphold professional ethics, and continue striving to make a tangible impact on society.
