Sasongko Tedjo, Head of the Volunteer Affairs Division of the Central Board of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), is an alumnus of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Class of 1983, Diponegoro University (UNDIP). He is a senior journalist at *Suara Merdeka* and a media practitioner who also serves as Chairman of the Honorary Council of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) for the 2023–2028 term.

Sasongko Tedjo was one of the seven fastest graduates of his cohort, successfully completing his studies in just four years. At that time, the academic system was transitioning from a package-based system to a credit-based system. In 1983, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Economics. Interestingly, he still had to complete his Community Service Program (KKN) afterward. Following his graduation ceremony, he returned to a village in Gemuh District, Kendal Regency, to finish his KKN assignment. As an alumnus of the Faculty of Economics and Business at Diponegoro University, Sasongko Tedjo fondly recalls his challenging yet amusing student years. Living only 100 meters from campus meant he had no chance to skip classes, as his friends often waited for him at his house before heading to lectures together. This close proximity made him one of the most diligent students.

Despite his academic excellence and being offered a position at Bank Indonesia, Sasongko Tedjo chose journalism over a conventional career in economics. His decision surprised many, including his professor, Drs. Suratal HW, who had planned to recruit him as a lecturer at Diponegoro University. However, Sasongko Tedjo was drawn to the excitement of journalism, beginning his career at *Suara Merdeka* (SM), where he was immediately entrusted with managing the Economics desk—a prestigious position at the time. He fondly recalls the golden era of print media, when newspapers were eagerly awaited every morning. Late-night assignments often required journalists to work until the early hours to meet publication deadlines. Sasongko Tedjo thrived during this period and eventually rose to become Editor-in-Chief, the pinnacle achievement in the print media industry.
