Muhammad Taufan, S.H., M.Si., LL.M., Ph.D. is an Indonesian diplomat and alumnus of the Faculty of Law at Universitas Diponegoro who has built a distinguished career in international diplomacy. He is a lawyer at Directorate of Treaties on Political, Security and Territorial Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Indonesia, who previously served as Counsellor for Political Affairs II at Indonesia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, representing the country in key global issues, including human rights and humanitarian responsibility.
Currently serving at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Taufan plays an active role in shaping and implementing Indonesia’s foreign policy. With expertise in law and international relations, he is widely recognized as a diplomat of integrity who contributes to strengthening Indonesia’s position on the global stage.
Taufan is also a PhD graduate in International Law at the School of Law, Flinders University, Adelaide, supported by the prestigious SPIRIT Scholarship Program from the Indonesian government. His research focuses on international and domestic legal perspectives on offshore oil and gas activities, including drilling platforms, subsea pipelines, and maritime operations in Indonesian waters.
His academic journey reflects a strong multidisciplinary foundation, which previously he graduated his Master’s degree in International Maritime Law from the IMO-International Maritime Institute, Malta, Master of Science in National Resilience Studies from Universitas Indonesia, and Bachelor of Law from Universitas Diponegoro as strong basic foundation of his career journey.
Muhammad Taufan, Ph.D was actively involved in academic, social, and cultural activities during his academic and professional lives. Since joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2008, Taufan has been part of numerous international delegations representing Indonesia. His leadership journey began early, having served as Chairman of the Student Executive Board at Universitas Diponegoro, and participating in prestigious forums such as the Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. Through his academic excellence, leadership, and diplomatic service, Muhammad Taufan continues to exemplify the global impact of UNDIP alumni in advancing Indonesia’s role in international affairs.
