Muhammad Fadjar Churniawan is an Indonesian civil servant and public administrator who has served as the Regent of the Thousand Islands (Kepulauan Seribu) since 13 November 2024. He assumed office following the death of his predecessor, Junaedi. Fadjar has held a number of positions within the Jakarta regional government, including Subdistrict Head (Camat) of Pesanggrahan and Deputy Regent of the Thousand Islands.

Fadjar Churniawan completed his undergraduate studies in economics at Diponegoro University in 1997 and earned a master’s degree in development economics from Gadjah Mada University in 2002.

Churniawan’s career in public service began in 1998 as a staff member at the Secretariat of the South Jakarta Administrative City. From 1998 to 2004, he served as a secretariat staff member before being appointed Head of Civil Servant Rotation from 2004 to 2008. In 2008, he briefly served as Head of the Subdivision for Career Development and subsequently returned to a staff position at the Secretariat until 2009.

In 2009, Churniawan was promoted to Secretary of Kebayoran Lama Subdistrict, a position he held until 2012. He then served as Deputy Head of Pesanggrahan Subdistrict for five years, from 2012 to 2017. In 2017, he was appointed Head of the South Jakarta Land Acquisition Unit before returning to Pesanggrahan as Subdistrict Head from 2017 to 2019. He later served as Head of the South Jakarta Regional Civil Service Agency from 2019 to 2020, before returning once again to his previous role as Subdistrict Head from 2020 to 2021.

On 20 August 2021, Fadjar assumed his first position at the regency level within the Jakarta regional government as Deputy Regent of the Thousand Islands under Junaedi. Following Junaedi’s death on 13 November 2024, Fadjar became Acting Regent of the Thousand Islands. He was formally appointed as Definitive Regent on 7 May 2025 after passing the fit and proper test conducted by the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) four days earlier. His position as Deputy Regent was subsequently filled by Aceng Zaeni.
