Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak (born April 10, 1982) is a politician from the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra), a Muhammadiyah activist, former lecturer, economist, and public policy observer. He previously served as Spokesperson for the Minister of Defense, Prabowo Subianto, and currently holds the position of Vice Chair of the Hajj Organizing Agency (BP Haji). On September 8, 2025, Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak was officially inaugurated as Vice Minister of Hajj and Umrah of the Republic of Indonesia.
Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak was born in Salahaji Village, Pematang Jaya, Langkat Regency, North Sumatra. He spent his childhood in Kuala Simpang, attending Aisyiyah Kindergarten, Sriwijaya Public Elementary School, State Junior High School 1 Kuala Simpang, Aceh Tamiang. He and his family later moved to Sibolga, North Sumatra, where he continued his education at State Junior High School 1 Sibolga. After graduating from junior high school, his family relocated once again to Tangerang City.
He pursued his undergraduate studies in Public Accounting at the Ahmad Dahlan Institute of Technology and Business, Jakarta. In 2005, he continued his education in the Master’s Program in Planning and Public Policy (MPKP) with a concentration in Central and Regional Fiscal Decentralization at the Faculty of Economics, University of Indonesia. While completing his master’s degree, he worked as a lecturer at Muhammadiyah University of Tangerang (UMT) (formerly STIE Muhammadiyah Tangerang). After completing his master’s studies, he was appointed as a civil servant lecturer at the Faculty of Economics, Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University, Banten.
In 2018, he pursued a Doctoral degree in Economics at Diponegoro University, Semarang. That same year, he served as Coordinator of the Spokespersons of the Prabowo–Sandi National Campaign Team in the 2019 Presidential Election, and subsequently resigned from his position as a lecturer at Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University, Banten.
In 2014, he was elected Chairman of the Central Executive Board of Muhammadiyah Youth for the 2014–2018 term at the 16th Muhammadiyah Youth Congress held at the Hajj Dormitory in Padang, West Sumatra. He succeeded Saleh Partaonan Daulay and secured 450 votes, outperforming Syahrul Hasan (334 votes), Rohmat Suprapto (64 votes), King Faisal (43 votes), Amirudin (33 votes), and M. Aziz (26 votes).
In 2018, he was appointed Coordinator of Spokespersons for the Prabowo–Sandi campaign, and in 2019 he officially joined the Gerindra Party and was appointed as official spokesperson for Prabowo Subianto. When Prabowo Subianto was appointed Minister of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia in 2019, Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak was appointed as Special Staff at the Ministry of Defense in the fields of Public Communication, Socio-Economic Affairs, and Inter-Institutional Relations.
