Budi Setyono was born in Banyumas, Central Java on October 11, 1971, who currently serves as Secretary of the Ministry of Population and Family Development/Principal Secretary of the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) in 2025.
Before being appointed as Secretary, Prof. Budi Setiyono was a lecturer, Vice Chancellor at Diponegoro University (UNDIP), and also a Professor in the Department of Political Science and Government, FISIP, at the campus. He was also a member of the Independent Team for National Bureaucratic Reform (TIRBN), Ministry of State Apparatus Empowerment (PANRB) 2021-2024, and the Expert Team for Research and Development of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) 2012-2013.
Prof. Budi also has experience working in various fields of work at international institutions, including: as National Faculty at UNODC—United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (2013), Program Evaluator at UNFPA—United Nations Population Fund (2010), Program Evaluator UNDP—United Nations Development Programme (2008), and Policy Researcher at the World Bank (2003-2004).
Prof. Budi’s education was completed at the S1 level in the Department of Government Science Undip graduated in 1994, S2 in the Department of Policy and Administration Flinders University, Adelaide Australia, graduated in 2003, and S3 graduated from the Department of Social Science at Curtin University Perth, Australia graduated in 2011.
